This is one of a series of images showing microscopic particles of air pollution seen against the magnified texture of flower petals.

These electronmicrographs were prepared using a scanning electron microscope by Edinburgh University. The resulting images were post-processed by Envision (under Alexander Hamilton's supervision) using Adobe Photoshop to sharpen them and enhance the contrast. The characteristic Prussian blue colour used in much of Alexander Hamilton's work was also applied at this stage.

At the Great Divide exhibition, the images were displayed as large prints laminated onto polished stainless steel sheets.
