| This is one of a series of vidoemontages produced
showing TXU's proposed offshore wind farm at Robin Rigg in the Solway Firth.
We already had still photographs spliced together into panoramas for this viewpoint and others and for speed and efficiency decided to use those rather than take fresh video footage. The background image was treated in such a way that it behaved as a cylindrical backcloth centred on the virtual camera position. By re-projecting it in this way, the background geometry correctly mimics that seen by a camera. (If you look at foreground detail in the video as it pans, you will see that it appears near the lower right corner of the frame, travels right to left in a shallow arc and disappears near the lower left corner. Of course, as this is a still background, the waves do not move. Turnbines and background were rendered separately so that final colour matching could be done as they were composited together to produce the finished sequence. Background and turbine rendering was carried out with Caligari trueSpace, sequences were assembled with VideoMach and compositing, editing and titling was done with EditStudio. The version of the video on this site is reduced to half the image size and half the frame rate and is very heavily compressed for web delivery. The original version was produced to broadcast resolution and frame fate. |
