An illustrative view of the areas considered for the electrical transmission link between Scotland and Northern Ireland, showing the position of Beaufort's Dyke, the deep submarine trench in the St George's Channel.

The data used included Ordnance Survey and Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland digital elevation models and a bathymetric model constructed from soundings shown on Admiralty charts. Different degrees of vertical exaggeration were applied to the land and sea portions of the model.

Just to add to the complication, OS and OSNI mapping and Admiralty charts all use different co-ordinate systems, map projections and map datums.
